Key West Lakes Renaissance Projects

  • The Britain’s Energy Coast™ masterplan includes 29 regeneration projects ranging from nuclear new build and new training and research facilities – such as Energus and the National Nuclear Laboratory – to improvements to health services and significant investment in transport links, leisure, culture and sporting facilities. More information about Britain’s Energy Coast™.
  • Whitehaven has already seen significant improvements to its historic harbour. Other regeneration work planned centres on developing the town’s retail and tourism offering, revamping the town’s top attraction The Beacon and redesigning traffic flow which is currently designed around the movements of industrial vehicles.
  • Work has started the Maryport Business Centre, one of many projects helping transform Maryport into a hub for business and high quality tourism. Other include the redevelopment of Maryport Marina; the iconic Ellenfoot Bridge at Maryport Harbour; and The Wave performance and exhibition centre, which opened in summer 2008

West Lakes Renaissance is also delivering the Housing Renewal Programme in Furness and West Cumbria.
