Rural Food Businesses

An action plan to secure a thriving future for the food and farming industries of England’s Northwest has been launched, thanks to a partnership led jointly by the NWDA and Government Office for the Northwest (GONW). ‘Facing the Future: A Delivery Plan for Sustainable Farming and Food in the Northwest of England’, sets out how the region will deliver the aims of the Government’s Strategy for Sustainable Farming and Food.

The Agency has also ploughed over £7 million into two ground-breaking projects to assist the productivity of food businesses throughout the region. ‘Northwest Fantastic Foods', the largest project of its kind, will assist over 2,300 food businesses in gaining access to new markets, as well as strengthening marketing advice, product development and skills training. ‘Distinctly Cumbrian’ will  support farmers and new and existing rural businesses in improving the production, distribution and marketing of local produce.
