Merseytravel Scoops National Company Award
Merseytravel, the Merseyside Passenger Transport Authority and
Executive, are celebrating today after winning a national
learndirect Achievement Award.
Having won the North West regional Company Award, sponsored by
the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), over the summer,
Merseytravel, based in Liverpool, has been recognised from over
1,750 nominations made nationwide to win the national Company
Award. The award recognises businesses who have supported staff to
undertake learndirect learning and who have recognised the part
that learndirect can play in supporting business objectives.
Merseytravel was praised for offering a true learning culture
throughout its organisation. The company has widened its strategy
to encompass its local transport partner Merseyrail and has secured
a two-year secondment of one of Merseyrail’s Union Learning Reps to
develop this opportunity. The company continue to see the benefits
to the company of encouraging staff training throughout its
organisation.
On receiving their award, Councillor Alan Dean, Chair of
Personnel at Merseytravel said:
“We couldn’t have done this without the Unionlearn Partnership
which enabled us to encourage our employees to participate in
learndirect learning. As a result the business has gone from
strength to strength and has a more motivated and encouraged
workforce. Merseytravel invest heavily in training their staff
because often they are the first people visitors see when they
arrive. This has been especially important this year, with
Liverpool being the Capital of Culture.”
TV presenters Eamonn Holmes and his wife Ruth Langsford, who hosted
the Achievement Awards national ceremony at The Science Museum in
London, said:
“We are both delighted to support the learndirect Achievement
Awards. We have worked with learndirect in the past to highlight
the benefits of learning and so have seen the positive impact that
learning can have on adults around the country. It is wonderful to
join learndirect in celebrating those individuals and businesses
who are using e-learning to train and improve their skills.”
Sarah Jones, Chief Executive of Ufi said:
“Learning changes lives and at learndirect we are passionate
about helping people to develop their potential. Merseytravel is an
inspiration to businesses across England and their commitment to
developing their employees’ skills and qualifications truly
deserves celebrating. To each of the winners I offer my
congratulations on their success and wish them the best of luck in
the future.”
